Greenbank School

Drama has always played a big part in the life of Greenbank.
In KS2 each class enjoys half a term of weekly lessons. Children have the chance to learn aspects of stage craft; develop acting technique and explore different theatrical genre.

Y3 – Pantomime
Y4 – Shakespeare
Y5 – Straight Play
Y6 – Musical

In Y3-5 the classes are run as a workshop with everyone getting chance to have a go at different parts.

The Y6 Musical

The Y6 Musical is a highlight of the school calendar. The pupils are not told what the production is going to be until the rehearsals start.  There is much excitement in anticipation of the announcement and the casting.

Since 2006 the shows have been full scale musicals – 2 Acts totalling 2 hours with an interval. There is always plenty for all the Y6 pupils to get their teeth into. Everyone is included in the chorus numbers and we make sure that everyone also has either a principal part or a cameo role somewhere in the production so there is no time to relax backstage! Y5 provide extra volume as a choir supporting the chorus numbers.
The show is performed on the stage in the school hall. The stage is equipped with lighting, a modern sound system including radio microphones and enhanced by luxurious blue house tabs (curtains!) purchased by the Parents’ Association.

The Y6 Musical provides pupils with an opportunity to put into practise everything they have learnt in Speech & Drama; to experience the benefits of teamwork; to boost confidence and to develop a relaxed, commanding presence in front of an audience.
