Early Years Foundation Stage
During your child's time in the EYFS we aim to prepare children for future schooling years by offering a broad, balanced and structured curriculum guided by the statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage. We provide a safe, caring and happy learning environment which focuses on developing early literacy and numberacy skills and social and emotional wellbeing, cultivating creativity and curiosity.
An outdoor area dedicated to the EYFS also allows a large part of the children's learning to take place outside of the classroom. We place high emphasis on close links between home and school in order for each child to reach their full potential.
Our Preschool provides care and education for children from the September after they turn 3 years of age. It is a large, bright and stimulating room that is attached to the Reception classroom in the school. Preschool is managed by a full time, qualified teacher and teaching assistants for fifty weeks of the year and is open from 7.30am - 6.00pm.
The aim of the Preschool is to create a nurturing and stimulating environment whcih will facilitate the smooth transition from nursery to school. We pride ourselves on delivering the best opportunities in preparation for school.
Reception is a natural progression from the Preschool at Greenbank. The children work towards the Early Learning Goals in the seven areas of learning with an increased focus on maths and literacy in preparation for Year One. The large airy Reception classroom at Greenbank provides a stimulating environment with various learning areas within it. The children use each of these areas every day for structured activities and purposeful play.
The Reception class benefits from the experience of both a full time teacher and teaching assistant. The children are taught music twice weekly by our specialist music teacher and once weekly by our specialist games teacher and Dance specialist teacher.
